Songs that move you...
Ok, so I could probably go on for days, even weeks about the songs that move me. And that "moving" part is the catch. How does one explain the feeling a song, story, poem or piece of art gives? I've tried over the years and the explanation always comes out wrong. Weird. Half-assed even.
When you hear or see or read something that causes this stirring inside your chest that you can't explain, or when you feel that you can no longer breathe or for some inexplicable reason you're crying....now that is art. At least IMHO.
For example, since I'm listening to the RENT soundtrack for the fifty-millionth time, I've now acquired some favourites among the tunes. "Seasons of Love" (naturally), "Contact", "Take Me As I Am", "I'll Cover You" and "Without You". The last two bring me to my knees every time and before I even realise it, I'm belting out the words, heedless of the fact that people in cars around me are staring at me as if I've totally lost a grip on my sanity.
Without you, the ground thaws
the rain falls
the grass grows
Without you, the seeds root
the flowers bloom
the children play
The stars gleam
the poets dream
the eagles fly
without you
The Earth turns
the sun burns
but I die, without you
Without you, the breeze warms
the girl smiles
the cloud moves
Without you, the tides change
the boys run
the oceans crash
The crowds roar
the days soar
the babies cry
without you
The moon glows
the river flows
but I die without you
The world revives
colors renew
but I know blue
only blue
lonely blue
Without you
Without you, the hand gropes
the ear hears
the pulse beats
Without you, the eyes gaze
the legs walk
the lungs breathe
The mind churns
the heart yearns
the tears dry without you
Life goes on
but I'm gone
'cause I die, without you
without you
without you
without you.....
And thus, the power of words. Such a random collection of letters, feelings and thoughts that come together to form human emotion.
